New York Fashion Week MAY-JOR!

Its been WAY too long, but summer just flew by with my trips to LA and NYC I was crazy busy! But I am BACK! I PROM!

Wow I am just coming out of a FASHION COMA!!!!! New York Spring Fashion Week just took place and I DIED! I am a small town guy who lives for high fashion. And NYFW did NOT disappoint! My Faves this year were: M.Kors, Mizrahi, Marchesa, Badgley Mischka, Prabal Gurung, Victoria Beckham, and of course OSCAR!!!! Everyone had amaz collections this year but the collection of Oscar de la Renta was off the charts FABULOUS!

As my idol Rachel Zoe would say: "Just a princess moment!" This has everything going on to make this gown just gorge! This is just a sample of the greatness Oscar showed last week!

The Mizrahi show this year was AH-MAZE-ING! Everything from floral prints to boyfriend collared gowns it was great. Isaac is becoming a designer on the level of American Iconic designers like Tommy Hilfiger and M.Kors!

This gown is beyonddddddd! I love anything metallic maybe I am a magpie?

O-EM-G the Marchesa showcase was the most artistic show EVER! The gown above is not just a normal gown but a piece of art. I DIE for Marchesa, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig made sure to keep the construction impeccable and everyone's mouths open! I loved it so much I picked 2 fab looks!

I mean look at the details and the structure of the bodice! Marchesa is all about the details, asymmetry, and structure! I literally DIE for Georgina and Keren, I do not know what is going through their heads to make such stunning gowns!

Last but NOT least Michael Kors the most iconic American designer! The King of Preppy and if you were to type his name into the dictionary it would say: Pure Luxe!

M.Kors knows how to make all neutrals look divine! This look just demonstrates how he can make the perfect prep look. If I could I would wear all of his mens wear because it is that amazing! I dieeee for preppy and M.Kors knows preppy! Even his bathing suits are luxurious!

This year New York Fashion Week was just amazing! One day I will sit front row wedged between Rachel Zoe and Anna Wintour, I just know it! There were so many amazing collections I could spend days writing about them but these were a few of the ones that tickled my fancy!

Fashion Icon of Today: Michelle Obama

The First Lady herself Michelle Obama is one of today’s fashion icons. We can think back to Jackie O and how she was a presidential trend setter, now Michelle O has taken over.

Mrs. O during the State Dinner: Wearing Peter Soronen, a glistening blue chiffon one shoulder gown with chic Jimmy Choo rhinestone sandals! She was the belle of the ball during the much anticipated State Dinner, the shimmering blue looked down right amazing on her skin. Her earrings stole the show and she did the right thing having a bare neck. Overall this look will go down in presidential history.

The new “O” in a beautiful blue printed dress by Tracy Reese is a great staple dress that looks great leaving the fabulous Air Force One. Mrs. O as usual was showing off those great assets and biggest fashion trend: her arms!

Lastly this amazing watercolor print dress by one of Mrs. O’s fav designers Thakoon. The colors were vibrant and kept with this springs color pallet. Also the watercolor dress is this seasons biggest trend, worn from the everyday women to the biggest stars and of course our First Lady. She also picked a nice mustard yellow heel to go right along with that stunning watercolor dress! Michelle Obama will go down as one of the BIGGEST fashion icons of today.

Until next time,

J

Right now it the perfect time to look for them because many stores are having sales because its still only March. START LOOKING NOW! Lets look at my picks for guys and for the girls!

For the Ladies:

This fun Zebra cut out bathing suit is perfect for a hot summer day by the pool. This is from Forever 21 and is only $19.80 AHHH such a deal! This is fun, flirty, and the cut outs are ALL the rage this year! It would look fab with a nice long gold chain. Its def for a confident girl who wants to get noticed, if that's you you better get it quick.

This is an AMAZING bikini, with a retro feel crossed with Missoni! HUGE, this is another fun look for the summer. I love love love the pattern and the colors are fab and pop with its black background. Its another Forever 21 deal only $19.80!

Now this is an amazing Paisley halter style bathing suit from J. Crew! We all know J. Crew is MAD expensive but its quality work and they never steer you in the wrong direction! I love love love the colors of the classic Paisley design and the way it looks on the body. It is a little pricey but it can be your summer staple: $58.00 but I prom you will LOVE IT!

Now this is for the BIG spender and the fashionista at heart. Many would find this boring but this is such a classic from J. Crew. Its a Rose Vine Romper style suit that is perfect for this summer. The detailing is amazing and would flatter any women no matter their body type. It will run you $125 but its an investment that you will have for years to come and it will never go out of style. Its just so sophisticated.

For the GUYS!

I love these Crest Canyon board shorts for the guys from Hollister Co. They come in classic solids or in fun vibrant colors. These are shorter than most board shorts and are more of the classic style NOT the long style that has become more popular. You have to be comfortable with yourself to wear them but I LOVE them. AND they are on sale right now for $29.89 GET THEM WHILE THEY LAST!!!

I am defiantly a sucker for Buffalo Check and these board shorts from Hollister Co. are just amazing. The colors are fun and are def great for the summer. They are for the fun attention seeking guy! These are also on sale for $39.50, these will def be on me this summer!

These are on the more expensive side but I would DREAM to wear them. These will def dawn my wish list for the summer. They are a classic check from J.Crew and the navy blue with the aqua is just STUNNING! They will run you $59.50 but will be something you will keep for a while. YES PLEASE!!!!!

There you have it, some nice summer loving for you. Its time to get your suits ready because summer is coming fast!

The Pinnacle of the Red Carpet Season: THE ACADEMY AWARDS!

If you love fashion, red carpet season is your favorite time of year! And the biggest night of the season, the climax: The Oscar's. The Oscar's is when all the celebs wear their BEST dresses, the most elegant, and the most risk taking of all the red carpets. Its time for my Best and Worst dressed women of The Academy Awards!

Lets start with the good news: BEST DRESSED
-Honorable mentions: Meryl Streep in Chris March, Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab, and Demi Moore in Atelier Versace

#5- Sarah Jessica Parker in Chanel

She looked like a Grecian Goddess in her beautiful Chanel gown. The light yellow against her skin was flawless, the way the gown draped made her look like royalty. The silver flower details on the front and back of the gown were wonderful and made it so there was no need for a necklace. The hair made the whole look complete. I know many of my fellow fashionista's don't agree with this pick but I am absolutely dying over this dress!

#4- Jennifer Lopez in Armani Prive

This dress was PURE over the top fashion DIVA! I think J-lo looked flawless in this Armani Prive gown, the Prive line is made with red carpet in mind! The iridescent pink color looked great against her beautiful tan skin tone. The gown was covered in Swarovski crystals which made the dress POP! Her simple but elegant jewls were amazing, just a cuff, ring, and pair of ear rings but they were def blin bling! I love when the girls put their hair up for this special occasion. Great pick J-lo, I know many did not like this gown but I love the avant garde risks.

#3- Vera Farmiga in Marchesa

This Marchesa gown was divine! I was talking with my fellow fashionista's about this and they were not too pleased with the gown. Many thought it was too much but HELLOOOO its the Academy Awards, the only time you could get away with such an avant garde piece. The raspberry color was amazing, and the pleated ruffles all along the dress were breathtaking. Her makeup was fantastic and over all even though she didn't go home with best Actress I can say she was my #3 pick for best dressed, YOU GO GIRL!

#2- Cameron Diaz in Oscar de la Renta

OMG Cameron Diaz looked absolutely stunning in her Oscar de la Renta gown. You could feel her beaming with happiness in this elegant gown. WOW I am almost speechless because this gown blew me away. If you didn't notice, many of the women last night were sporting a bare shoulder area with no necklace just simple elegance. This is because the dresses this year were more elaborate than years past. Diaz and the R.Zoe team picked a real winner, hair, makeup, clutch all complemented the stunning Oscar de la Renta gown! Congrats team Zoe!

AND THE WINNER OF BEST DRESSED GOES TO....... Sandra Bullock
#1- Sandra Bullock in Marchesa

OMG I DIED AND WENT TO FASHION HEAVEN! This stunning Marchesa gown was the best dress of the night. Sandra looked radiant in this very bold and sparkly gown. We know Marchesa can make a great red carpet gown but wow this was amazing. The metallic silver bottom gave way to the crystal top, again this is a controversial pick, many thought she looked too mature but HELLO she is a mature women. Normally I like the hair up for the Oscar's but Sandra pulled the whole look off, and she managed to still be noticed in a gown that is very over the top. Her makeup was perfect! Not only did Sandra walk home best actress but she is walking home BEST DRESSED!

NOW FOR THE FUN, WORST DRESSED HAHAHAHA

#5- Diane Kruger in Chanel

This hurt to say but Diane Kruger from Inglorious Bastards did not look good last night. If you know me, the reason it hurts is because I DIE for Chanel but this gown did not look hot on Kruger. I think that the cream and black looked awful against her skin tone, washed her out. I also think that the middle made her look wide in the hip area not to mention it looked like the dress got caught in a lawn mower and there was no time to change. I also thought her eye makeup made her look old and tired. Sorry not a good choice at ALL, down right unfaltering!

#4- Amanda Seyfried in Armani Prive

I think she got stuck in some bubble rap or something on the way because this gown was just down right wrong. Like I said the white bubble rap material looked cheap and the white just washed her out. She was too meek and scared to be wearing such a big avant garde art piece. J-lo also wore Prive but wore it with confidence and picked a better piece. This one was just all wrong for the meek actress from Dear John. I would have rather seen her in a Elie Saab or M.Kors piece.

#3- Nicole Richie in Reem Arca

UGH stop it! Nicole Richie looked so so bad in this piece. First of all this multi-covered sequenced dress was grody! It looked WAY too big on her, which made her look almost emaciated. Second the way the pattern went it looked like it was pointing right to her bust which was nonexistent in that dress. Her whole body was covered and not even a inch of skin showing in the front. Overall not a good pick by Richie, would have liked to see something better on her. It just overpowered her too much.

#2- Maggie Gyllenhaal in Dries Van Noten

This hand painted Dries Van Noten gown was down right under dressed for the Oscar's. It looked like she was going to be vacationing in Hawaii not attending the biggest fashion event of the year. AND she was also nominated so you think she would wear something better? NOPE this gown would be nice if she were going to a fund raiser in Hawaii or somewhere tropical. Her hair looked bad, almost slicked back with too much product. Her makeup was mediocre, overall just an upsetting choice for a nominated actress.

HERE IT IS THE NUMBER ONE WORST DRESSED....... Zoe Saldana
#1- Zoe Saldana in Givenchy

Gag me with a spoon PLEASE!!! This dress looks like the designer took every current trend and spit it up all over this dress. Crystal covered bodice, ombre dress, and multi-colored tulle bottom. AHHH a fashion crime overload here, everything is wrong especially the bottom. PLEASE, I wanted to run up there and just cut that gross, over the top tulle skirt off because that just threw me over the edge. I love Zoe and I loved her previous choices for the Golden Globes and SAG awards but this dress WILL go down in fashion history as one of the WORST dresses ever worn to the Oscar's right next to Bjork's swan dress. Sorry Zoe, you even looked better in Avatar as the native people in Pandora.

There you have it, my best and worst dressed from the Academy Awards. Some of my picks may be controversial but I stand behind each of them! I can't wait until next year to see if anyone can redeem themselves or be able to stay at the top.

Until Next Time-

J

A Fashionista's Dream: New York Fashion Week!

New York Fashion Week is dying down and I am suffering from a fashion high! NYFW was showcasing Fall 2010 Ready To Wear collections from the new like Christian Siriano to the old stand by's like Michael Kors and Calvin Klein. I want to look at the big trends that I saw this year: sweaters, jumpsuits, draping, metallic, prints, outerwear, ruffles, and BOHO.

JUMPSUITS-

Here are two examples of some jumpsuits, the above comes from the eccentric Betsy Johnson. I love the color and the print on the jumpsuit, this Fall season does have a lot of deep tones but a lot of the designers are also using brights to spice their collections up. On the right is a jumpsuit from Christian Siriano, winner of Project Runway. He is the only winner that has really made it big, and I personally love his aesthetic!

Below on the left is a jumpsuit from one of my personal faves, Charlotte Ronson! She knows how to showcase a women's body. In order to wear a jumpsuit you need a pretty rockin' bod but if you can pull it off try a suit separate. On the right is a jumpsuit from Lacoste, I love how they extenuated the waist with the bright red belt.

METALLIC-

Here are two examples of the metallic trend. To the left is a very cute cocktail dress by Miss Posh Spice herself: Victoria Beckham. She has made a huge splash onto the fashion scene and I LOVE IT! The dress is two-tone and wonderful, she also knows a women's body. To the right is a fashion legend Diane von Furstenburg, this is a very fashion forward piece that I am in LOVE with, the black sweater and skirt with the POP of metallic is perfect.

Below are two more metallic looks the one on the left is from Christian Siriano. This is a very cute dress for a dinner date or a night out with the girls. VERY Sex and the City if you ask me, def a Carrie dress. I love the collar on the dress, it makes it stand out. On the right is a dress from Luca Luca and is perfect for a Broadway play or a night out with the boy. The neckline makes this dress, the keyhole is placed perfectly and shows just enough skin to make it HOT! HUGE

Stay tuned through out the week for the continuation of my New York Fashion Week report. I wish I could have done it all at once but I am just too BUSY AHHHHH, tomorrow will be the next instalment! HUGE

Alexander McQueen A TRUE Avant-Garde Genius

Today I was devastated to find out that one of the best designers had passed away: Alexander McQueen. McQueen was best known for his fearless avant-garde fashion designs and his impeccable tailoring. His work was over the top but it a wonderful, tasteful way and that is what made his such a famous designer.

He is know for looks like this:

These are very avant-garde and beautiful.

But he also known for his wonderful ready to wear fashions like these:

These are stunning, flowing dresses that shows off all of his wonderful tailoring.
McQueen's name has made a much bigger splash after he teamed up with Lady GaGa on his most recent fashion show where GaGa released her newest single: Bad Romance. She whore almost ALL McQueen in her Bad Romance video:

But McQueen is very popular with MANY celebrities on the red carpet not just GaGa:

Cate Blanchett in McQueen at the Benjamin Button Premiere

Victoria "Posh" Beckham

Rihanna in McQueen

McQueen was an amazing man who was different and an artist. He created art, not all can understand such fashions but he created true avant-garde and pushed it to new heights.

Many were surprised by the death of McQueen, here are some tweets from people in shock:
MrJayManuel twetted: I'm just stunned and devastated at the huge loss the fashion industry took today. Alexander McQueen was a genius!! RIP

csiriano (Christan Siriano): I really think McQueen is the most talented artists of my lifetime, wish his family well

rzrachelzoe: I cant describe the tragic loss of such a brilliant man and designer Alexander McQueen..R.I.P xoRZ

katyperry: Rest In Peace Alexander McQueen. Just woke up, so sad.

tyrabanks: RIP Alexander McQueen. so so sad. such a huge loss. He was one of my favorite designers. He will be missed.

KimKardashian: I just found out Alexander McQueen died!!! I'm in shock! So sad! I'm wearing one of his dresses now! He was such a talented designer.

Those are just a few of celebrities stunned over the loss of such a great man. Twitter is overwhelmed with people twitting about McQueen!

This is a very sad blog but I felt is was necessary to blog about a man that has changed the fashion world for ever. He will be there right next to Chanel and Dior, he was a fabulous man. My Heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to him and his family during this horrible and difficult time.
